"The stained glass looks beautiful in the picture, and the swirling window tracery. A lovely sense of space. A great palace of a spiritual building! interesting to see it, thank you."

"Walking within danger, I was glad to be both supported in it and directed out of it. I expected neither, so both were gifts. Thinking back, I can remember times when I was part of the danger, and still am in terms of my thoughtless collusion with…"

Andrew Ralph Cheffings replied to David Brazier's discussion GENTLE SPIRIT in the group BUDDHISM
"Thank you for the reminder that Buddhist arguments tend to be small. Small things which don't tend to start wars. Tiny differences of opinion about the exact nature of the Holy Trinity have certainly caused big problems. Does the Holy Spirit…"

I am currently looking for new direction in life following a series of personal and family crises. I realised that I have had my head in the sand for a long time and need to take it out. I love writing hymns but only do so when they come to me.

Wrong

I am about to do, or have already done, something wrong,

Which will cause me to be responsible for something terrible.

How can I prevent this from happening, or undo what is already done?

I even feel responsible for others' atrocities I don't even know.

Lamb

There are accidents,

There are mistakes,

And there is deliberately doing wrong.

Why do I feel responsible for others'…

Saint Thomas

As I walked up and down the Strand,

I glimpsed Saint Thomas White

On the other side of the street.

Shamefully, I glanced at him.

He smiled.

In shame, I looked away and walked on.

A second time I saw him,

And found my eyes drawn to him-

So pretty, so slight, so masculine.

He winked at me.

In shame I looked away

And walked on.

A third time I saw him.

My eyes moved to…

Hymn of Conciliation

I've sent this hymn to a person who has been fairly central in the recent storms in my life. It's something of an ending, I hope:

Foolish Beings

I do not blame you for being you;

I do not blame me for being me;

To Amida, we are both foolish beings,

But we can entrust ourselves to Him

And let him transform

Our foolish, vulnerable selves into Gold.

You carefully appreciate what you…

Resigning Hymn

Here is the hymn I wrote which helped me resign from a job which I have been struggling with for many years:

Two Trees

A culture of bullying is like a tree:

If bullying is in the trunk,

It spreads through every branch and twig,

Until we all become bullies or colluders.

Amitabha reaches out to rescue me;

I stretch out my arm, and take His hand.

He is the trunk of a different…

WHAT NEXT?

Posted by Susthama Kim on January 7, 2018 at 22:30 0 Comments

As far as my life goes, it is pretty boring; nothing too exciting or too adventurous. We had a ‘minor scare’ over Christmas, however, but it turned out to be nothing but a change in hormones. Had it come to fruition it would have meant another three years of my life doing nothing but the same thing that I have been doing for the past six years, and boy oh boy, I am so relieved that it was just a scare. You can never be too careful, and at the same time you can’t even plan the perfect time to…

ITALIAN DAYS

Posted by David Brazier on January 7, 2018 at 16:00 2 Comments

I am currently in Milan - a fine city. This is the commercial hub of Italy, home of many big names and innumerable small enterprises that attract shoppers from all over the world. There is quite a strong sense of energy here. The biggest tourist attractions are La Scala and the Cathedral.

I have rented a…

Johnny Halliday: la mort d'un monstre sacré

Posted by Tamuly Annette on December 18, 2017 at 21:45 1 Comment

JOHNNY HALLYDAY

Posted by David Brazier on December 6, 2017 at 10:08 1 Comment

Johnny Hallyday died just after midnight this morning.
