"The combined left parties having more votes than the right yet the right winning also happens in Spain... You are having a great electoral turmoil this time, as in any other European country (just remember France or Austria): positions are becoming…"
"That would be hard to say, and I'm very fool and utopian to dare say that, and my anarchist background doesn't help... Anyway, I think that money is the problem. As Marx said, the social struggle is always an economical struggle.…"
"Good morning, David. Thank you for posting this great reflection.
In my opinion, both currents are almost the same at the end. Internationalism could sound better, but at the end it cares more about IBEX than people. Liberalization is a matter of…"
Good morning. I don't know if the War & Peace group would be the correct one for this post... :)I've read that permafrost (the frozen strata of water and rock beneath the surface of Siberia, northern Canada, etc.) is starting to melt. And this fact implies two things. The first is the liberation via aquifers of unknown bacteria and virus, which where frozen for the last 45 million years. This could mean terrible pandemics for which we don't have any kind of cure. The other fact is that…See More
On the day that England and Wales voted to leave the European Union, I am starting this group as a place for political comment. The aim is to create a space where all and any issue of current affairs in the world can be discussed from a spiritual perspective.See More
"Estoy de acuerdo, aunque quizá los latinos seamos un poco más intensos para todo, tanto para amar como para odiar :) Pero, efectivamente, no creo que se pueda (ni deba) generalizar. Bombu es igual para todos"
"Hello, David, and greetings from Madrid.
In my opinion, jealousy is not love, but possession, as we learn by Dharma and life. I'm very fortunate (I might done something very good in a previous life) to share my life with Ana, my wife, who among…"
My name's Cayetano and I'm from Madrid. I have been implied in Dharma study and practice since the last 8 years. In some way of another, my path had crossed through Amida Buddhism here and there. As a very lazy person I am, reciting of the Nembutsu it has been the only constant one during this time. I have recently completed the ITP course and now I want to do the V22 program.
How did you hear about Eleusis?

Welcome to David Brazier at La Ville au Roi (Eleusis)
I found this in a book that I'm reading. It has challenged my current "understanding" of the Nembutsu. I tend to think of the name itself as salvation and the bridge to the Pure Land...
"...Nembutsu is not a means to gain salvation but a reflection of it. Shinran acknowledges there is nembutsu without true entrusting because he lived in an environment where nembutsu was recited for benefits and merit. By itself it cannot produce true entrusting. Nevertheless, they are inseparable as…
On Saturday evening our regular study group met on Skype where we looked at and discussed material from "No Abode", a beautiful book about the life of Ippen, ancient Japanese Purland master and "The Essential Shinran" which documents the life of Shinran Shonin, one of Honen's most famous disciples. We had a very stimulating discussion which I enjoyed greatly. We will be meeting again on Saturday 19th May at 9pm British time. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to join us.…
I wasn't getting as much done as I intended to or 'needed' to in my previous mode of moving between lots of different activities, so I decided to devote one day a week to a particular activity, and this week I'm doing a Buddhism day. I've finally managed to get started on Vow 22, then I did some online research and catching up with mostly Buddhist emails, then I wrote a dharma talk. I plan to do a service run-through later. It's certainly easier for me to get things done this way. Namo Amida…
Today is the fourteenth anniversary of the death of Gisho Saiko. Sensei Saiko was the founder of Shinshu Counselling. He wrote a number of books and presented his ideas at international conferences as well as through his university and Buddhist organisations in Japan. He referred to my work in his books and when I visited Japan a few months before his death, he took on to invite me to a number of gatherings and hosted my wife and I in royal fashion. He was enthusiastic that I should play a…
