A view I have is that human culture will inevitably destroy global ecology. The hindsight we have now if we dare look comes far too late in the process of human evolution to avoid this outcome. When we talk of emptiness are we not talking of life without the baggage of human culture?  If there is reason in this it does seem a useful term in understanding that we are both participants and victims in this whirlwind that we call our lives.

  • It might well do so. To avoid doing so humans have to either stop expanding their domain (and even diminish it somewhat) or find somewhere other than planet earth to do so - neither of which seem terribly likely in the immediately foreseeable future.
