"Frightening but true. Did we ever listen, do we really now? Thank you for the poem and what it says. The teaching that I read earlier of a similar vein was wise and made me think and reflect."

"If May had any integrity she would have stood down. How stupid to call an election when you have a majority and three years of office left. To then have a huge vote of no confidence, and to have a hung parliament with Corbyn in opposition is that.…"

"So sad to see people clinging to power at any cost. She should have stood down and maintained some dignity. Theresa May has done herself no favours. She has shown no respect to the party or people she represents."

"The young people have shown that they are not happy with the cuts to public services. And the policy of austerity. I don't believe that the EU played much of a part in this. Rather young people with a strong sence of social justice."

  • No I don't think that young people automatically vote for the left. Opinion polls have shown that Corbyn is popular amongst younger voters. This is probably due to the fact that they haven't really had the hype that surrounded the left in the 70's and 80's. Many older people are still broad left. ANd you still have the young conservatives.
I'm not sure that for me personally as I've got holder have become more conformist tending to go more to the centre ground. Not so long ago I would have been much happier with such a candidate, and a return to clause 4 etc. So more a reflection on me I think. However as I said today I voted labour. As I did when I first joined the Labour Party 33 years ago.
  • Thanks, Amdrew. That's interesting. Why do you think that young people tend to favour the left and older people the right? Do you think people move right as they age or is this a difference between one generational group and another. Are the young people who vote for Corbyn today still going to be voting Labour when they are fifty?

  • today in the UK we have a general election. The candidates have very little to offer. 1970’s Labour, the austerity mania of the conservatives and a lib dem who’s name I don’t even remember.
Up until last week I thought I wouldn’t even vote as the only candidate I could have voted for was the Tory and that would go against a lifelong belief in socialism.
After the last week of watching them campaign and the young people who are following labour I decided to opt for 70’s labour.
Maybe I just got brainwashed by the new labour spin doctors and this made me move away from the left wing ideals that originally made me join labour.
Could just be I got older and less rebellious
  • Thank you.
  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
