Jan sent us this account of her journey from La Ville au Roi (Eleusis) to Hawai'i
Would I sound deluded if I say I feel that I have a new take on time and space? Maybe it comes from having two places with strong connections. As I journeyed back to Hawaiʽi, I got the feeling of traveling in a kind of neutral dimension, just watching and listening.
Austerlitz station, beautiful traditionally built African women, splashes of color, rolling, hip swaying, confident. A metro singing duet with a range from soul to Frank Sinatra. The Paris airport, a crowd gathered below at arrivals, all in French colors, matching sparkly hats, cheering returning Olympians. Nervous security guards and the Marseillaise ringing out as I head through security.
London Heathrow and a 64 square foot room with no window (eat your heart out Adam), an incubation cell for the night. The long flight over Greenland and fantastical glacial lakes and waterfalls, eventually heading Southwest along the Cascade Mountain range, visions of my small kid time. Crater Lake with its Wizard Island, thinking of family camping and when times were good. And all of it surrounding me in a warm cloud of gratitude. Mahalo, Mahalo, Mahalo. Aloha Nō, Aloha Nō, Aloha Nō.
