TUESDAY 5 Apr ~ A Day of Bureaucracy & Pizza

Through Many Offices
I don't think any of us like dealing with bureaucracy, but it does make for funny stories sometimes.

This morning we went to see the French equivalent of social security to see if it was possible to reclaim some of my medical expenses. These fall into two parts - the cost of being in hospital and the cost of treatment since. In the case of the hospital cost, the hospital claim from UK and then charge me the difference. In regard to the other expenses, we found out that i probably cannot claim any refund until I myself go back to UK, which is not likely to happen for some time.

Then we went to the hospital get copies of my scan results which I will need to take with me when I go to see a heart specialist later this month. We went to one office, were sent to another who took us to a third who took us back to the original one who charged me twelve and a half euro and gave me the records, all of which took a couple of hours.

Then we went to the tax office, submitted a form decalring that we do not have a TV so that they do not tax us for having one and also paid the 1000 or so euro that I do owe for the hospital treatment. So it was a broadly successful morning, despite a lot of time sitting in waiting rooms and walking along long corridors. However, by the time we got home i was quite tired.

Pizza
While we are going rough the offices, Modgala had been shopping. On the way home, Elja suggested we have a pizza party. Adam made pizza bases and Modgala cut up a variety of toppings - mushroom, courgette, olives, peppers, grated cheese and so on. All the while there was much singing of Buddhist songs. Then we each loaded our own base with whatever toppings we fancied and baked them in the oven. It made a rather good and very filling evening meal.

Change of Quarters
Elja has been working on cleaning and organising my rooms in the former ecurie. It is now done and looks lovely and so we are now in process of moving our stuff back there. These rooms are cooler so not good in winter but better in summer, especially since my library is there. On the other hand, they are beyond the reach of our wi-fi, so this will occasion a change in my working pattern. I'm happy to be moving back into "my rooms".
