TUESDAY 6 Sept ~ Preparing for Winter

Fruit
Today Elja was picking berries and making jam and syrups while I was sawing logs that Adam was then storing away in the woodshed. All preparations for the colder months to come.

We are still getting plenty of garden produce. Today I harvested a small mountain of tomatoes as well as yellow and green courgettes. It has been mostly warm but overcast today.

Words
Elja is busy with editing work. From time to time we have discussions about the exact meanings of words.Translation makes one aware how each term has a range of meaning and often there is no exact equivalent with the same range in the other language.

I have completed reading the Iris Murdoch novel and have put a review of it on the site. The book leaves one thinking about relationships, freedom, guilt, responsibility, clashes of philosophy and the whole issue of how people get on with other people who are unlike themselves.

Chicks
Of the baby birds who flew the nest, two out of the three survived and they spend a lot of time sitting on the telephone wire just above where I usually park the car. I have taken to parking the car in the yard so as to avoid their droppings. The parents still come and feed them. They make short flights out and back but are not yet self-sufficient. There are another pair of fledglings from another nest also sit on the same wire further along.
