WEDNESDAY 13 Apr ~ Writing in the Storm

We had a happy breakfast outside in the sunshine, then Modgala, Adam and Elja went to Emmaus leaving me at La Ville au Roi. Car journeys do not seem to be very good for me at the moment so what is a pleasant outing for the others is an endurance test for me. Better to stay at home. As soon as they were out of sight the heavens opened and it poured with rain almost continuously until they got back some hours later. There was a lot of thunder and lightning and at time the rain turned to hail. By the time they got back, the storm had blown itself out and I learnt that they had experienced nothing similar. Weather around here can be very localised.

Emmaus is a charitable organisation in France that sells bric-a-brac on a large scale to fund assistance to the homeless. Their warehouse near us opens on Wednesday and Saturday and over the years we have bought a lot of household things there. This time our party returned with a heap of mats and carpets, a set of cereal bowls, a water jug and several other items.

I spent much of the day writing in our upper room. It used to be a granary. It is a very attractive space with exposed old oak beams. In the mornings at this time of year it is one of the cosiest spots, having caught the morning sun. In winter it becomes a storeroom and is too cold to use, but as spring comes on we sort it out and it comes back into use.
