Demeter

Demeter is the ancient Greek goddess of grain, especially wheat, the fromental goddess. The nearest village to Eleusis is Bessais-le-Fromental. Eleusis is in the middle of fields of grain, not far from great rivers (Loire, Allier, Cher) and dark forests (Troncais, Apremont, Meillant). The worship of Demeter is thought to be exceedingly ancient, probably pre-dating the Olympian Gods. Demeter was the daughter of Chronos and Rhea and so was the sister of Zeus. Rhea was the daughter of heaven and earth and Chronos the lord of time. Demeter's nurse was Irene (peace). We have here, therefore, the origin of the whole of Greek mythology, much symbolism and deep meaning.
