THE REALLY IMPORTANT NEWS

This thread is an invitation to record the really important things yhat often get missed.

To start us off I want to note that Larry the cat is to stay in 10 Downing Street when David Cameron and his family leave. I'm sure the prime minister has done some good work while he has lived there, but the essential duties performed by Larry should not go unnoticed and I'm pleased to say that he is not stepping down.

  • Tom Bateman of BBC reports... "

Larry the Downing Street cat has been seen by a vet after suffering an injury to his paw, officials have revealed. It comes after he was spotted yesterday limping into Number 10. The prime minister's official spokesman said Larry was "expected to make a full recovery". Asked who would pay the bill, the spokesman said he did not know as it had not yet been received. Pressed on whether it would be paid from "the kitty", the spokesman said only: "Oh dear." Asked whether this followed a fight with Palmerston the Foreign Office cat, the spokesman said he would have to refer the question to "higher authorities".

    Larry did not require surgery.

  • I imagine it would be cat-a-strophic, cat-a-pulting Larry into a cat-a-clismic cat-harsis, but I'm sure he'll keep the new PM in order anyway.

  • It's a great relief that there'll be some continuity. Here he is in his domain

  • I am wondering what sort of government Larry would lead - or would it be a dictatorship?
