Friday 25 MAR; The Joy of Practising Together

After Breakfast we went to Oasis for our morning service with Annette. It was lovely. A kind of ecumenical service, a Pureland service in a Tibetan shrine hall. After the service David gave a talk and one of the things he said was that the Gods will be happy to see that people from different kind of religion are practising together – he said that all in their different heavens they would be drinking toasts to us. We were all very happy to have taken this new step in bringing the two groups together.

The shrine hall at Oasis is a bit different from our hall at Eleusis. Here are some pictures:

We enjoyed being together in this way. After some coffee and tea we returned to Eleusis.

The rest of the day we spent most of the time indoors. Today it is cold, and wet outside. David spent hours writing and studying Dogen and I am working on a new translation. Then the weather eased up a bit and David and Adam went out and cut wood. At the end of the afternoon we had a community gathering. Then I cooked.

While I was cooking, I looked out of the window and I saw a cock pheasant passing by quite close to the window, looking rather proud, and a little behind his wife. I called David and Adam and we watched this nice couple pottering around among the daffodils under the walnut tree. I hope that one day we shall see them walking around with babies.
