Silver sunlight at dawn filtering through the walnut tree makes the washing line into a stream of colourful flags. The settee in the garden is so French. The little cat is already twice the size of when she arrived and her then blue eyes are now nearer to grey-green. She scampers hither and thither chasing dead leaves and then settles on the top of the back of the sofa, enjoying the commanding view. My cup of tea steams in the cool of morning. The garden chairs are smart with dew. Later they will need to be moved into the shade as the midday heat climbs. Birds chatter, preparing their busy day of feeding and nesting. I think I'll go and tie up the tomatoes that have already grown quite a few inches since they were last stringed. On the way I will see the bright yellow courgette and pumpkin flowers and I shall notice half a dozen other tasks, small and large that await attention in the garden and old buildings. No shortage of activity here. It is a good life.
