SUNDAY 22 NOV 2015: Preparing for Winter

This weekend we have been busy making bookcases and reorganising rooms and also packing things up in preparation for winter. Here deep in the country, as soon as the weather turns cold, mice decide to move indoors and start looking for warm things with which to make nests. If you are not careful this can result in holes in blankets and duvets as the little characters run off with their little bundles of nest building material. So when we go away or when we are leaving a room unused for a while everything has to be packed away. We have experimented with various forms of storage, some of which work, but it is amazing what a mouse can find his way into. We are giving some thought to the possibility of having a cat. The problem is that we are not here on the spot all the time. A cat would manage for a few days on its own but longer periods might be a problem.

Between times we have been having intense discussions about life, relationships and community. My relationship with Elja is still new and so we have plenty to talk about. We are both the kind of people who like to experiment with life and we are interested in community. It is an interesting thought experiment to  speculate how it would be here with more people on site. There are various possible scenarios. At times, there will be other Amida people here. When everybody on site is involved in Amida then there is an established way of doing things. However, it could also be that other people may become involved and that could result in a somewhat different kind of community. How will these two systems gell? With Eleusis occupied for more of the year it is inevitable that the place will start to take on a life of its own and it will be interesting to see what is possible as well as what the knock-on effects are.
