TUESDAY 13 Sept ~ Waxing Moon

The moon rises further east each evening and gows in size. Three quarters now.

The days are hot and today the wind was particularly dry. Perhaps it is the sirocco. The winds from Africa rarely get this far north, but today the air had a quality altogether more arid than usual.

Berries are ripening and I brought in a good haul this afternoon. There will be more jam making tomorrow. I like to rotate jobs. Yesterday I was repairing a wall with stone and lime. Every job inflicts its particular form of dukkha. The lime can scour one's skin. Berry picking brings scratches and thorn pricks. If one rotates jobs some little wounds heal while other different ones are sustained.

This morning we went to the supermarket. Quite a big shop this time, restocking with basics.

After this morning's service we discussed the six paramitas and the whole notion of ordinary virtues vis-a-vis paramita qualities. Is it truly possible to give up desire?

In the evening, watching the moon rise one is in touch with matters so vast that our little concerns seem as nothing.
