TUESDAY 29 Dec Planting Roses in December

I know you are not supposed to plant roses in December,
but this is no ordinary December. It feels more like September. Anyway, it was good to get out in the fresh air and exercise some muscles and get some more of the flower bed turned over. I had one unpleasant moment when I stepped backward and put my foot onto a decaying pumpkin. The squelching yellow goo came over the top of my shoe inserting a sticky mess around my foot. It was good to have a nice hot shower when I came in. Another small triumph of the day was to find a different method of stringing the strimmer. With my new unorthodox way, a machine that was broken for want of a rachet has become usable again and, furthermore, the new method uses up less strimmer cord and so is more economical. Little triumphs of this kind mean quite a lot to me as I passed the greater part of my life believing that i was completely incompetent in all things mechanical, so, although this is a small matter in itself, it was also a defeat for my inner demons.

  • David , I can relate to your gardening moments. I always adapt my strimmer as I can never string the strimmer according to the instructions (destructions more like). I lose myself totally in the garden once I start work . I think any pot grown shrub/rose can be planted any time it's just that spring time temperatures means better survival rate. Happy gardening .
