CHANGING THE BIG GAME

The world is changing rather rapidly at the moment. The world's leading capitalist country is apparently contemplating protectionism while the number one communist country is promoting globalisation and free trade! Under Cameron the UK did seem to be moving toward strong links with China, now this seems to have gone cool. America and UK appear to be getting closer. America and Europe seem to be moving apart. Does this mean that there may be an EU-China alignment? It looks as if the EU (particularly France & Germany) is already feeling threatened. That could, of course, be just what is needed to pull it together. Potentially the EU could fall apart completely or could rapidly become the number one economic power itself - there is a lot to play for. What will happen in the Middle East with a new US president is anybody's guess, except that the new regime seems to be strongly pro-Israel. However, the price of oil is rather low and likely to stay that way for a while yet, though there could then be a sudden shock since low prices now mean low investment in the industry which means shortages later. The oil price is likely to affect things quite strongly since it bears on the ME situation and finances Russia. It will be interesting to see how much the immediate future is shaped by such reality factors and how much be sentiments of friendship (Trump-May?) and animosity (Trump-Merkel?).

  • Lots of things are changing. I don't know if things are getting worse or not, but just that things are definitely moving. Countries like China are betting in a new renewable energy, they realized they just can't keep things as they are. Countries have decided to stick together in the Paris pact, which I think is very good for the environment and our only earth, some are even willing to go further saying that if USA gets out of the deal, they will apply a "carbon tax", this means they are not backing down.
I've seen some "conscience grow" over the whole global warming issue, which is big, but I've also heard so many deniers. Or people that don't understand what a "chronic illness" is, because that is what global warming is, it doesn't kill you straight away, but will do and when you realize you have it, is too late.

One thing I've seen here, many people are just wandering why hate has become a tendency. So many phobias, so much hate and jealousy, I think that something that has motivated many of this "new politics" is hate and fear. Everybody want's to shut their doors, specially the ones that have the opportunities (like wealthy countries), suddenly the rest of the world seems to have lost its importance.
Me, personally I do feel little anxious as I come from one of those "poor countries" with little opportunities wanting to get out and seeing so many people shutting the door, just because... It is sad.
I still have hope though, I do think that something very good will come from all this, who knows, maybe this will be the opportunity for other countries to grow and to make a change.
