  • Beautiful expression of longing and refuge.

Inspired me to do an Afrikaans translation:

Soos 'n boom uitreik na die heelal

so soek my hart die Huis.

Nou is die nie meer lank nie.

    Ongeduldige verlange dra my tuis.

Nie meer lank nie ... dan is ek by die Huis.

    As a tree
    hankers for the sky
    my heart
    hankers for home.

    It won’t be long now
    before my impatient longing
    takes me back.

    Not so long now
    before I see
    your face again.

  • NOTHING IS MISSING

    Singing as I work
    I can’t help remarking
    Life with Amida
    is ceaselessly joyful.

    What is this springing
    exploding within me
    lifting my voice up
    over the meadow?

    What liberation!
    What crazy wisdom!
    When I am nothing
    nothing is missing

  • Very moving

  • The lotus higher than the mountain
    sheds petals
    innumerable as moonbeam,
    one for each vow,

    one for each bow,
    one for you now,
    and now and now
    and so
    for ever.

  • This dry stone wall
is made of many oddly shaped rocks
    balanced one upon another.
    David’s life
is made of many oddly fashioned
    thoughts, words and deeds
    piled one upon another.
    Death is the coping stone
    that holds it all together.

  • Mouth falls open
    caught unawares
    as stars fall
    bouncing off the mountains,
    a hail of blessings
too much for my small heart,
but through the branches of the thick forest
where I carry out my sheltered labour
I can bear to raise an eye
    to briefly catch
    a glimpse of angels.
